It’s probably safe to say that all of us at some point has had a stubborn pimple ruin our skin for days. They can be big, painful and difficult to get rid of but, a pimple is not what you call acne. Here’s a little more about what Acne is and the causes that lead to acne.
Acne is a like an umbrella term that is used when there is breakage on the skin not just in the form of pimples, but also, blackheads, freckles, whiteheads all together in a particular area. It is also a chronic condition ( which means its persistent and lasts for a long time), which if it gets severe will require attention from a dermatologist. There are also different kinds of acne namely: Acne Vulgaris, Acne Fulminans, Acne Mechanica.
Acne can appear anywhere on your skin, although some people might have one particular spot where it can appear in excess, it could affect any part of your skin. But it could appear concentrated in certain places a lot more than the rest, one certain place is the chin area, and across the jawline.(1)
This can be prone to Acne because most of us don’t even touch this area when we wash our face. This means that there’s probably going to be a lot of dirt, oil, and sebum, that’s going to remain that and clog up your pores. There can be a lot of reasons for such Acne breakout, not keeping your skin fresh and healthy throughout the day could increase it, but the actual reasons can be hormonal, due to stress and even medication.
Most of the women have a lot of Acne breakouts when they are nearing the date for their periods, or when they’re pregnant or commonly when they’re going through some hormonal changes. Same goes for people with a thyroid problem, they usually have hormonal imbalance often resulting in Acne breakouts.
Medication for depression or contraceptives can also cause Acne breakouts quite frequently.
Stress and pollution are two factors that tend to worsen every situation, this would make your Acne worse and difficult to get rid off. (2)
For Chin Acne, or any other Acne actually, it’s important to keep your pillow covers, towels and sheets clean, the residue of dirt and oil can affect your skin and aggravate your Acne more.
Prevention
- Keep your Hands away from your face at all times
- Try to stay away from helmets that have a tight grasp around your chin, this could increase the Acne around that area.
- Don’t pop your pimples it increases inflammation.
- If you have dandruff keep your hair tied up and change your pillow cover from time to time.
- Use non-comedogenic products, which means you’ll have to stay away from cocoa butter and so on.
- Be careful while using a razor around your chin area, your dont want to burst a pimple through this and spread infection.
How to get rid of Chin Acne?
Aloe Vera – This is the number one go to for all kinds of skin issues including Chin Acne, it has anti-inflammatory, and cooling properties that help you get rid of the acne without bursting it and making it worse.
- Tea Tree Oil- This is used because of its anti-inflammatory properties that help in reducing the inflammation and redness.

- You have to make sure you wash your face twice a day and keep it clean, don’t over do this by using harsh soaps on your face, twice a day would be enough.
Other than the things mentioned above, it’s also good to keep a healthy diet, and avoid oily foods, and anything else that would increase the sebum production in your skin.
